Teosinte is the wild progenitor of modern corn.

Teosinte plants are tall and upright. Stems produce many tillers (branches).
Teosinte plants are short green plants with no flower, clustered like long grass.
Teosinte is a short day plant and will not flower in the field.

Teosinte seeds are enclosed in hard covering. The small ear contains fewer than 12 seeds.
