Liguleless

Ligules are small membranes at leaf collar. Ligules are absent from most leaves on mutant plants. Without ligules, leaves are upright and often wrap around stem (Neuffer, Coe, and Wessler, 1997).

Shows corn stalk without ligules has leaves clustered and wrapped around the stalk so that it almost looks like a bush.

Closer view of the stalk shows leaves with a husk, but the stalk isn't really visible.
