Lesion

Many mutations cause lesions, and symptoms vary with mutation and background. Lesions are often small to large necrotic areas and can occur on all plant tissues (Neuffer, Coe, and Wessler, 1997).

Stalks of lesion plants look normal except for color of the stalks
and leaves that should be young and green, but are mottled with brown and yellow spots.

Close-up of the top side of a young green leaf shows one broad stripe
of yellow-brown and many small speckles of yellow-brown spots covering the rest of the leaf.
Upper surface of leaf from young plant; lesions are small and not numerous.
Close-up of an older plant's leaf shows that the lesions have grown
so that the leaf is no longer mainly green, but a mix of large yellow-brown spots almost striping the green leaf.
Upper surface of leaves from older plant; lesions are numerous and some have merged to form larger spots.
Close-up of the husks on an ear shows many small brown spots from lesions.
